Germaine D’Rosario is a soprano based in the United Kingdom. Her repertoire includes opera, oratorio, musicals and classical crossover works.
From a very young age, Germaine would listen and sing along to her father’s records, which were primarily, blues, jazz and rock & roll. Her father, Rudolph D’Rosario, learned to play the guitar and accordion without any formal training and therefore tried his best to teach the young Germaine to play a variety of instruments, but with little success…Germaine just wanted to sing!
Despite her love of music and singing, Germaine chose to lead a “normal” family life until 1996, when a work colleague encouraged her to join a local amateur dramatic group. Her peers often commented that she had a beautiful voice and that she should consider formal singing lessons. Germaine took their advice and after a year of basic vocal training, went on to perform with a number of local theatre groups; chorus as well as principal roles in musicals and plays. Germaine also sang regularly in her local church choir.
Germaine’s dream of singing opera began when she bought a compilation album and heard Renata Scotto singing “Un bel di vedremo” for the first time. Renata’s voice was so gentle and sweet at one moment and so powerful and emotive in the next; this never failed to move Germaine. It was then that Germaine decided, her passion was to study opera.
Although Renata Scotto set Germaine on her path, other major influences include Maria Callas, Joan Sutherland, Angela Gheorghiu and Anna Netrebko. Germaine has also been influenced by classical crossover artists, Sarah Brightman and Enya.
In 2014 Germaine recorded “Ebben? Ne andrò lontana”, “Panis Angelicus”, “Winter Light” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone”. Thanks to various promotions by Danie Cortese , including radio promotions, Germaine’s global profile and fan base has increased.
By December 2014 both “Ebben? Ne andrò lontana” and “Panis Angelicus” were released to all major digital stores, worldwide. In 2015, Germaine released “You’ll Never Walk Alone” plus two new recordings, “Un bel di vedremo” and “O mio babbino caro”. The popular “Winter Light” was released in September 2015.
Germaine is planning to release more singles, and possibly an album in 2016….so watch this space.!
